Filming begins for 'Superman: Man of Tomorrow' with new logo hinting at Brainiac
James Gunn announced that production has started on the Superman sequel and shared a first look at the new logo featuring a nod to Brainiac.
On Monday, James Gunn confirmed that filming for 'Superman: Man of Tomorrow' has officially started at undisclosed locations. The director took the opportunity to reveal a first glimpse of the new logo, which appears to include a reference to Brainiac, one of Superman's most iconic villains.
In the Instagram post, a chessboard and a badge identifying Lex Luthor at VanKull prison are visible. This suggests that Luthor remains detained during the early scenes of the film.
Behind the badge, a clapperboard displays the film’s logo, featuring Superman’s classic S symbol along with three dots forming a shape reminiscent of Brainiac. Although Brainiac’s symbol is usually inverted, the reference seems clear and hints at the presence of the super-intelligent android in the story.
Excitement is building around Brainiac’s role as the main antagonist. Gunn previously revealed that the arrival of the alien will force Kal-El to work with Luthor, though this does not necessarily mean Luthor will turn good.
This will be Brainiac’s first appearance in live-action Superman movies. He has been absent from previous films, although there was an attempt in the 90s to include him in a project that was ultimately canceled.
The confirmed cast includes David Corenswet as Clark Kent/Superman, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor. Lars Eidinger will portray Brainiac, and Adria Arjona might play Máxima, queen of the planet Alderac, or perhaps a new Wonder Woman, based on rumors.
The film is scheduled for release in theaters on July 9, 2027. Fans are eager to see this new chapter of Superman unfold.
