This film is a direct sequel to its Oscar-winning predecessor, “Godzilla Minus One.” It also marks the first-ever Japanese production to be filmed for IMAX, a significant achievement.
The official plot synopsis reveals that “Godzilla Minus Zero” picks up in 1949. This is two years after the tumultuous events of “Godzilla Minus One.” The story continues with the Shikishima family as they face an all-new calamity.
Two of the 2023 film’s stars are returning for the sequel. Ryunosuke Kamiki will reprise his role as pilot Koichi Shikishima. Minami Hamabe will once again play Noriko Oishi. Their return ensures continuity for the beloved characters.
The CinemaCon footage began with a behind-the-scenes look at the making of “Godzilla Minus Zero.” It then transitioned to a vibrant color teaser trailer. This featured Koichi back in the pilot's seat, flying through debris. Shots of a city in ruins were prominently displayed. Noriko, her eye still covered by a bandage, comforts her adopted daughter Akiko. Godzilla emerges from the ocean to attack a plane.
