Currently available on both iOS and Android, Meta has not announced plans for a desktop version or a wider rollout to other regions, including the US. This move fits into Meta’s broader strategy to expand its features and attract users who prefer ephemeral sharing.
This launch echoes the earlier "Shots" feature within Instagram messages, which also allowed instant photo sharing. However, Instants seems to focus more on privacy and fleeting interactions, with a design reminiscent of Snapchat’s core experience.
Tech observers are watching whether this app will succeed in capturing the attention of users who favor private, temporary content. The market for ephemeral photo sharing remains competitive, with Snapchat and TikTok also vying for younger audiences.
