Intel plans to expand overclocking to more CPUs for wider access
The company aims to make overclocking available on more processors, moving beyond its current high-end focus.
Intel announced plans to broaden the availability of overclocking across its processor lineup. Until now, this feature was mainly limited to the high-priced K models aimed at enthusiasts. The company wants to remove these restrictions and enable more CPUs to be overclocked, similar to AMD’s approach in the past.
The goal is to have more processors with unlocked multipliers, allowing users to tweak performance without paying extra for premium models. While Intel hasn't specified exact products or timelines, this change is expected to happen gradually with future architectures like Nova Lake.
Robert Hallock, an Intel spokesperson, confirmed that the company's internal policies are shifting to favor users and regain market share from AMD. Over time, more models are expected to be unlocked, making overclocking accessible to a broader community.
This move marks a significant step in Intel's strategy to compete in the enthusiast segment and offer more flexible, cost-effective platforms for PC builders. The trend indicates that overclocking could become a common feature across Intel's processor range in the future.
