Miyamoto confirms Peach's backstory in the movie will be canon in future games

This means Peach and Rosalina will be sisters in the official continuity, a decision Miyamoto admits wasn't easy, as he previously aimed to avoid restricting characters with detailed histories.

Miyamoto also clarified that he doesn't want storylines to limit gameplay, which is why he avoided creating detailed backgrounds for characters in past games. However, the film's success has led to this story becoming part of the canon, opening new narrative possibilities for the franchise.
