Spaceballs: The New One Trailer Debuts, Mel Brooks Confirms Details!
The first official trailer for the long-awaited sequel to Mel Brooks' iconic sci-fi parody has arrived, revealing its title and key details.

The first official trailer for "Spaceballs: The New One" premiered on April 15 at CinemaCon, marking the return of the beloved parody franchise. This initial sneak peek clearly bears the unmistakable stamp of its original writer-director, the legendary Mel Brooks. The film promises to satirize popular sci-fi and fantasy properties, maintaining the irreverent spirit fans adore.
Mel Brooks, who remains incredibly sharp at 99 years old, sent a video message to the convention. In his message, he officially announced the sequel's title: "Spaceballs: The New One." The trailer offered glimpses of parodies targeting "Star Wars" and "Harry Potter." It even features a Na’vi from "Avatar" at a urinal alongside the quintessential "Spaceballs" chief enforcer, Lord Dark Helmet.
While specific plot details are currently kept under wraps, the trailer provided plenty of funny touchstone moments. Audiences can expect parodies of other major franchises, including "Star Trek" and "Alien." The theatrical release date is set for April 23, 2027, a date that has fans eagerly anticipating the film.
The production will bring back several members of the killer original cast. This includes Rick Moranis, George Wyner, Daphne Zuniga, Bill Pullman, and Brooks himself. New talent will also join the fray for this intergalactic adventure. The cast will feature Keke Palmer, Lewis Pullman, Anthony Carrigan, and Josh Gad, who is also one of the film's writers.

Brooks had previously teased the project with a classic "Star Wars"-style text crawl. That message read: "Thirty-eight years ago, there was only one Star Wars trilogy. But since then there have been… a prequel trilogy, a sequel trilogy, a sequel to the prequel, a prequel to the sequel, countless TV spinoffs, a movie spinoff of the TV spinoff, which is both a prequel and a sequel […] But in 38 years, there has only ever been one Spaceballs. Until now…".
"The New One" is directed by Josh Greenbaum. The screenplay was written by Josh Gad, Dan Hernandez, and Benji Samit. Amazon MGM Studios will release the movie, ensuring its wide theatrical distribution.
Amazon MGM Studios used CinemaCon to make several significant announcements. The studio committed to releasing 15 movies in theaters per year, a target they claim to be on track to hit by 2026. They also debuted footage from other upcoming projects. These include "Masters of the Universe," "Highlander" starring Henry Cavill, "The Thomas Crown Affair" with Michael B. Jordan, "Beekeeper 2" featuring Jason Statham, and "How to Rob a Bank" with Nicholas Hoult.
