WhatsApp tests a button to summarize chats and save time
The app is working on a feature that provides a complete summary of all pending conversations with a single tap.
WhatsApp is experimenting with a feature that will make managing chats much easier. The update isn’t a full release but an improvement to a function already announced. The app is close to offering a comprehensive summary of all your conversations on your device, instead of opening each chat individually.
This feature is similar to what Apple introduced on iPhones with Apple Intelligence, an AI capable of reading notifications and summarizing what’s happening on the device in a few lines. Now, WhatsApp aims to integrate something similar, making Meta AI more useful for users.
The new button will appear at the top of the app’s inbox, allowing users to tap and have the AI read all pending messages. It will then generate a summary that highlights key points, who said what, and the topics discussed.
This will let users quickly grasp what’s happening in their chats without opening each conversation. Although not entirely new, this marks a step forward in WhatsApp’s ability to handle multiple chats simultaneously.
The AI will understand the context, identify who says what, and separate different topics across chats. For example, if several people message about different subjects, the summary will give a clear, organized overview.
After pressing 'Summarize,' WhatsApp might respond with something like: 'Jorge messaged to ask where you’re having dinner Saturday. In the 'Vacations' group, there’s a debate about the hotel, and Sandra says she’s landed in China.'
The feature will be available on both Android and iPhone, ensuring broad accessibility for users.
And what about privacy? WhatsApp assures that the AI analyzes conversations in a secure environment, on servers where chats are deleted after generating the summary. The company states they do not store or access chat content during this process.
In short, Meta and WhatsApp guarantee that the function respects privacy by analyzing chats securely and deleting data once the summary is complete. This tool promises to make chat management more efficient in daily life.
