Apple develops its own chatbot to compete with ChatGPT and Google

Apple is taking a significant step in artificial intelligence by confirming it is developing its own chatbot to rival ChatGPT, Anthropic, and Google. The plan involves two phases: first, improving Siri with Google’s Gemini AI model, and later, launching an advanced chatbot integrated into its operating systems and devices.

The partnership between Apple and Google marks a key shift in virtual assistant evolution. Gemini, Google’s AI engine, will serve as the foundation for the upcoming Siri version, arriving in the coming weeks. This integration will boost Siri’s capabilities and support Apple Intelligence features, aiming for a smarter, more personalized user experience.

For months, Apple evaluated proposals from several AI companies, including Anthropic, OpenAI, and Google Gemini. Ultimately, the company chose to adopt Google’s foundation models and cloud infrastructure, enabling a deep transformation of Siri and Apple Intelligence.

Initially, Siri will use a lighter version of Gemini to deliver more accurate and personalized responses, with an update planned for iOS 26.4 in spring. Later, with iOS 27, Apple will introduce a more advanced Gemini-based Siri, featuring a fully integrated chatbot with expanded functionalities.

The internal project, called “Campos,” reflects Apple’s ambition to position itself in conversational AI. This chatbot will begin integrating into iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and macOS 27, gradually replacing Siri without changing how users activate it via voice commands.
