Samsung SmartThings adds safety, family care and AI updates
Samsung's SmartThings platform expands with enhanced Family Care, Aliro smart lock support via Wallet, and AI-powered Now Brief on TVs and fridges.
Samsung has updated its SmartThings platform with new safety, family care, and AI-driven personalization features. The rollout begins in 2024 across compatible TVs, refrigerators, and mobile devices.
Family Care now includes improved fall detection and wellness alerts for older adults. It uses motion sensors and activity patterns to notify family members of potential emergencies. The system runs locally, without cameras or microphones, relying on compatible sensors or wearables.
SmartThings now supports Aliro-certified smart locks through Samsung Wallet. Users can manage access and share digital keys without third-party apps. "Integrating with Wallet simplifies physical access to homes and offices", said Samsung's product team.
Aliro locks let users grant time-limited access to guests via their smartphones. No physical keys or cards are needed. The feature works with brands like Assa Abloy and Schlage, with more partners coming later this year.
The AI-powered "Now Brief" summary is now available on Samsung TVs and Family Hub refrigerator displays. It shows weather, traffic, reminders, and personalized updates at startup. All data is processed locally, keeping sensitive information on the device.
These updates reflect Samsung's push for a more secure, intuitive smart home. No new hardware or pricing changes were announced. Features are rolling out gradually by region and device model.
