Spotify now shows if a song was created with artificial intelligence

Spotify has started rolling out a new credit system that indicates whether a song was created with the help of artificial intelligence (AI). This feature, already visible in some tracks, aims to increase transparency within the music industry. The initiative is part of a standard developed alongside DDEX, which promotes clear communication about technology use in music production.

With this update, artists, producers, and rights holders can voluntarily declare the use of AI at different stages of the creative process. This information appears in the credits of each track, allowing listeners to better understand how the music was made. Currently, credits with AI details are available only on mobile devices and for content distributed through DistroKid, the first partner to adopt this standard.

Spotify explains that these credits do not mean the entire song was created with AI, but rather reflect specific roles in the process. This helps differentiate whether AI was used only for certain sounds or played a broader role in composition. The increasing use of AI tools in music has sparked debates about authorship and rights, and this initiative aims to provide clarity without penalizing their use.

The main goal is to give creators more control over how their work is presented and to help listeners understand the creative process better. Collaborating with DDEX, Spotify hopes this standard will be more widely adopted across the industry, fostering transparent and consistent communication in the music sector.
